BLACKPINK (stylized as BLΛƆKPIИK) is a globally renowned South Korean girl group formed by YG Entertainment, consisting of four members: Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. They debuted on August 8, 2016, with the digital single album SQUARE ONE, featuring the tracks "Boombayah" and "Whistle." The release quickly established them as one of the most prominent acts in the K-pop industry.
As YG Entertainment’s first girl group since 2NE1, BLACKPINK garnered significant attention even before their debut. Each member had already attracted public interest through various pre-debut activities: Jennie appeared in labelmates’ songs and music videos, Lisa was widely known as a standout Thai trainee, and Jisoo gained recognition through multiple music videos and television appearances. These early spotlights contributed to the group’s rapid rise in popularity.
BLACKPINK has since broken numerous digital records. Their 2018 single "DDU-DU DDU-DU" became the most-viewed Korean music video within 24 hours at the time, and later the most-viewed K-pop group video on YouTube. In 2020, their release "How You Like That" shattered several YouTube records, including the most views in 24 hours for any video on the platform, solidifying their global influence.
They made history as the first female K-pop group to perform at Coachella, which significantly expanded their presence in Western markets. Their return as headliners marked a historic moment in K-pop’s global crossover, underlining BLACKPINK’s far-reaching cultural impact.
Despite each member branching into solo careers, BLACKPINK renewed their group contract with YG Entertainment to continue joint promotions. Jennie launched ODD ATELIER, Lisa founded LLOUD, Jisoo created BLISSOO, and Rosé signed with The Black Label—each expanding her individual artistry while maintaining group activities.
In 2025, BLACKPINK made a powerful comeback with their new single "JUMP"[
